India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant opened up about the smart tactics that he applied in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 against South Africa. He revealed that he told the physio to take his time because he wanted to slow down the game.

On 29th July, the India National Cricket Team finally ended their ICC title drought as they won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Rohit Sharma-led defeated the South Africa National Cricket Team in Barbados to win the ICC title after 11 years and their second T20 World Cup after 2007.

Although India played the entire tournament as the champion team, they were under pressure in the final. South Africa, in the middle overs, completely took the game away from the Rohit Sharma-led side and was on the verge of winning the final of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Rishabh Pant used his smart tactics and slowed down the game

South Africa needed 26 runs in 24 balls with Heinrich Klaasen going on great guns. However, it was at that time when Rishabh Pant used his smart tactics as the momentum was completely in the favour of the Aiden Markram-led side. He used his intelligence and stopped the game.

Pant seemed to be suffering from a knee niggle, and he called for the physio to attend to him on the field. The keeper-batter got strapped on the knees, and the break there did wonders for the India National Cricket Team as it changed the entire complexion of the game.

After the break, there was a lapse in concentration for Heinrich Klaasen as Hardik Pandya removed the keeper-batter on the first ball of the over. The South African player slammed 52 from just 27 balls, and after his wicket, momentum completely got in India's side, and they cashed on that.

I was telling the physio, that you take your time - Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant talked about the injury break that he took during the final of the T20 World Cup 2024. He admitted that the momentum wasn't there on the side, and he had a thought that they wouldn't ever get a moment to win the the trophy like this again.

Pant claimed that he told the physio to take his time and revealed when he asked him about the injury, the keeper-batter told him that he was faking his injury. Speaking during an event, he elaborated:

"I was thinking about this. Because suddenly the momentum shifted. There were a lot of runs in 2-3 overs. So, I was thinking, when the moment will come when you are playing the World Cup final. So, I was telling the physio, that you take your time, keep wasting the time.

"He was asking me if I was okay. I told him I'm just acting. Sometimes in such a match situation, I am not saying that it works every time, But sometimes it works. And if it works in such a moment, you want nothing else."

Rishabh Pant scored 171 runs in eight innings in the T20 World Cup 2024

Rishabh Pant played a vital role for India in the T20 World Cup 2024. He scored 171 runs in eight innings at an average of 24.43 and a strike rate of 127.61. The southpaw was dismissed for a duck in the final. The tournament also marked his return to international cricket after the accident he faced in 2022.
