Rishabh Pant hits historic career-high in ICC Test Rankings, sets sights on dethroning Joe Root

ICC Test Rankings: Test cricket is at its full swing, as several cricket giants are now featuring in their first Test series for this WTC cycle. India against England is the first Test series for either of these two teams in the new ICC World Test Championship cycle.
The South African side, defending champions of the WTC, are currently playing against Zimbabwe, while Sri Lanka are playing a Test series against Bangladesh.
Alongside them, finalists from the WTC Final 2025 and defending champions of WTC 2023, Australia, are on their test tour to the West Indies.
There have been significant changes observed in the ICC rankings, as Rishabh Pant has climbed up and achieved a career-high rating with twin hundreds at the Headingley test.
Changes in ICC Test Batting Rankings
Rishabh Pant starred in the Leeds Test and scored two hundreds across both innings of the first test, and with his two stunning innings, he has climbed a spot to the No. 6 position in the ICC Test rankings for batters.
Joe Root remains at his top spot with 889 points after his 28 and 53* from the two innings of the Leeds test, while teammate Harry Brook is not far away, occupying the second spot with 874 points. Only a 15-point bridge between the two English batters.
Indian opener and centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal retains his No. 4 spot on the points table. The most significant change marked is Pant's move to no. 6, which is one position short of his career-best no. 5 ranking. Though he has an all-time points rating of 801.
Australian batter Travis Head moved to the number 9 spot after twin half-centuries in both innings of the first test at Barbados. Pathum Nissanka has made a significant rise in the ICC rankings as he has advanced to the 17th spot with a rise of 14 positions.
Kusal Mendis rose to the 30th spot, while Lhuan-dre Pretorius entered the Test batting rankings with the 68th rank after a century against Zimbabwe.
Changes in ICC Test Rankings For Bowlers
Jasprit Bumrah retains his top spot in the ICC Bowling Rankings, as the great Indian pacer put on a stunning performance with 5 wickets at Leeds.
Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood also claimed a five-for against the West Indies in the second innings at Barbados and has climbed to the 4th position in the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers with 817 points.
Jayden Seales has also moved to the 9th spot on the points table after his stunning show at Barbados, when he claimed a five-fer in the first innings.
ICC Test Rankings For All-rounders: Ravindra Jadeja leads the chart
The all-rounder charts do not mark any significant changes, as Ravindra Jadeja tops the list with 376 rating points. Wiaan Mulder has 187 points in the test ratings, as the all-rounder after a stunning hundred against Zimbabwe has moved to 7 position in the list to the 15th spot.
South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch after a stellar hundred in the same game as that of Wiaan Mulder rose 42 positions in the ICC test rankings for all-rounders and has occupied the 19th spot.
