Shikhar Dhawan praised Rishabh Pant for his leadership skills in the first match of IPL 2021 against Chennai Super Kings. Rishabh Pant, the new skipper for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021, led the team to victory against Chennai Super Kings in the first match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Delhi Capitals comfortably won the match by 7 wickets after opting to bowl first.

Rishabh Pant was nominated as the team’s skipper after Delhi Capitals’ regular captain Shreyas Iyer sustained a shoulder injury. Iyer got injured during India vs England ODI series last month, due to which he had to undergo shoulder surgery. As a result, he was ruled out of IPL 2021 tournament.

Rishabh Pant Motivated The Boys During The Match, Says Shikhar Dhawan

While speaking during a virtual conference after CSK vs DC match, Shikhar Dhawan said that Rishabh Pant stays calm during the match which is a very good thing about him. He also revealed that Pant motivated the players during the match.

“He did quite well. First of all, I am glad that he won the toss. It was a bit sticky wicket so it was good for us to bat second. He kept his calm and kept on motivating the boys. He did good changes as well and I am sure he only gonna get refined from here with this experience. The best thing is he stays calm and his presence of mind is quite there which is very very good,” Shikhar Dhawan said.

Talking about his batting, Dhawan said that he improvised his shots according to the fielding set by Chennai Super Kings. Calling his 85-run knock a good start, Dhawan said, “First, I started practising the sweep shot and then I introduced it into my game. I have to improvise my shot according to the field. I knew that CSK will keep square-leg and fine-leg in the 30-yard circle and put fielders at the covers so I knew I have to chip the ball above them. I knew they gonna bowl wide yorkers to me so I was prepared for it,” he said.

“It was a good start for me. I will look to continue it in the tournament. Prithvi also did well and we will look to continue this in the tournament. There has been no change in my batting style. I am enjoying my game and you will see playing like this only,” the left-handed batsman added.
