Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has jumped five spots to become the No. 6 Test batter in the latest ICC Test rankings released on Wednesday, November 6. Rishabh Pant is India's second-highest-ranked Test batter in the latest ICC rankings, behind Yashasvi Jaiswal, who dropped one place to No. 4.
Rishabh Pant scored twin centuries during the final Test of the recently concluded three-match series against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The left-handed batter registered scores of 60 runs and 64 runs in the match. However, the hosts suffered a 25-run defeat to complete a 0-3 whitewash.
Rishabh Pant Registers Massive Gains In Latest ICC Test Rankings
Rishabh Pant was the only Indian batter to score over 200 runs during the recent series. The southpaw scored 261 runs in six innings at an average of 43.50, including three half-centuries. Before that series, Pant had made a strong comeback to Test cricket with 161 runs in two Tests against Bangladesh.
The 27-year-old is nearing his career-best rating of 801, having accumulated 750 points after the New Zealand series. Alongside Pant, Shubman Gill has also climbed in the rankings. He scored 90 runs in the first innings of the Mumbai Test and rose four places to become No. 16 in the ICC batting rankings.
Virat Kohli Slips Out Of Top 20 In Test Rankings After New Zealand Series
Virat Kohli has dropped out of the top 20 in the ICC Test rankings after a poor performance in the third Test of the home series. Indian captain Rohit Sharma has slipped to 26th place in the ICC batting rankings. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored just 190 runs in three Test matches at a disappointing average of 31.66.
New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell rose eight places to No. 7 after scoring 82 in the first innings of the Mumbai Test. Usman Khawaja, Saud Shakeel, and Marnus Labuschagne each dropped two places in the latest rankings. Joe Root remains the top-ranked Test batter, with Kane Williamson in second place.
South Africa's Kagiso Rabada Retains Top Place In Test Bowling Rankings
Ravindra Jadeja, who took five wickets in both innings of the third Test, has jumped two spots to become the No. 6 Test bowler. Jasprit Bumrah remains India's highest-ranked Test bowler at No. 3, while Ravichandran Ashwin has dropped one place to No. 5.
New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel, who also secured a five-wicket haul in both innings of the Mumbai Test, jumped 12 places to No. 22 in the Test bowlers' rankings.
Kagiso Rabada is at the top spot in the Test bowler rankings after his impressive outings in South Africa's 2-0 win over Bangladesh. Australian pacers Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins are in second and fourth positions, respectively.
