India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma talked about Rishabh Pant's injury in the first Test against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. He said that they wanted to be careful with him, especially after the injury he had and hence, he didn't keep wickets.

India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant had quite an eventful game against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The southpaw was a top performer for the team in the first innings, where they posted just 46 runs, with his innings of 20 runs.

But while keeping, Rishabh Pant suffered an injury scare. The keeper-batter coped a blow on the knee while keeping and then was taken off the field, with Dhruv Jurel rushing to the ground to take the keeping role for the team for the remainder of the game.

Pant couldn't walk properly after that blow as he was taken off the field. He didn't return to the field then as he was deemed unfit to take part in the day further. There were a lot of doubts about if he would come out to bat or not, but he put the team ahead.

Pant walked out to bat at the start of Day 4 and then played a magnificent innings for the team. Despite not being able to run properly, he made sure that he gave his best for the team and played a crucial. His innings helped India take the lead in the second innings and gave them a chance to win.

Rishabh Pant ended with an inning of 99 runs off 105 balls. He batted with a strike rate of around 95 and also slammed 9 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. This was the 7th time in his career that he got dismissed in the 90s in the longest format of the game.

But after that, he again didn't come to keep wickets in the second innings, which raised quite a lot of questions again. However, skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed that they wanted to be careful with him because of the tough time that he faced. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

"About his injury, he has had a massive operation on his knee. It's better to be careful. When he was batting, he wasn't comfortably running. We need to be extra careful. He has gone through a lot of trauma in the last couple of years. Not easy to keep with pain."

While talking about his innings, Rohit Sharma said that when Rishabh Pant bats no one knows what is about to come next. He said that they have told him a number of times to understand the situation, but he plays the way he wants to, and they want to give him freedom. He added:

"On his innings, no one knows what goes through his mind. Only he knows it. That's the kind of freedom we need to give it to him. We just told him to please understand the situation, but that's Rishabh."

India will be next seen in action when they will take on New Zealand in the second Test. The match will be played from 24th October in Pune.
