Former England spinner Monty Panesar has picked Rishabh Pant to be the future captain of India in T20 Internationals ahead of Rohit Sharma who is the current vice-captain. Virat Kohli has already announced that he will step down as the T20 international captain for India after the T20 World Cup to keep his own batting form intact.

There hasn’t been any announcement on who will become the next captain of the side but at the moment with the amount of experience Rohit has in IPL as a captain of the Mumbai Indians, he will certainly be among the favorites to become the next Indian T20I captain.

Monty Panesar Impressed By Rishabh Pant’s Maturity And Calmness

Monty Panesar mentioned that Rishabh Pant should be a strong contender for the next T20I captain for India considering his maturity and his pressure handling skills. Pant led the Delhi Capitals this season and finished top of the points table at the end of the league stages. However, they lost in the playoffs and ended up finishing third in the season.

“Rishabh Pant should become India’s T20I captain. He has done really well in the IPL and for Delhi Capitals. The maturity he has shown, the way he handled pressure-cooker situations is amazing. He is very calm and he is just brilliant.” Monty Panesar told to TOI

Monty Panesar Feels MS Dhoni Has Played A Big Part In  Pant’s Improvement

Rishabh Pant has improved his wicket-keeping skills massively in the last year and Monty Panesar feels MS Dhoni has a big part to play in it. Panesar added that Rohit is 34 already and hence long-term plans with him as captain might not be the ideal plan.

“He learnt this art from MS Dhoni. Dhoni has played a big role in making Rishabh Pant a perfect wicketkeeper and captaincy material. Rohit is 34 and I am sure he is ready to captain. But if India are looking at the future, then Rishabh Pant is the best man. Rishabh Pant should become a future captain for India.” He added

Pant had a good season for Delhi Capitals with the bat and he will be eyeing to make it big in the T20 World Cup for India.
