The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shared a major update on Rishabh Pant’s finger injury, and that is not good at all for the India National Cricket Team in the ongoing third Test against England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
During the 34th over of England’s innings on Day 1, Jasprit Bumrah ended up slipping a ball down the leg side. Rishabh Pant dived to collect the ball but couldn’t grab it cleanly. The ball slipped past, allowing England to steal two byes at Lord’s. Just after the dive, the Indian wicketkeeper was seen in considerable pain.
BCCI issues update on Rishabh Pant's finger injury
The injury forced him to leave the field for medical attention, and he didn’t return for the rest of the day, and Dhruv Jurel took over the wicketkeeping duty for India in the ongoing third Test against England. Later, it was confirmed that Pant had taken a hit on his left index finger.

Now, in a major setback to India, the BCCI has confirmed that Pant continues to recover from a blow to his left index finger, and the medical team is closely monitoring his condition and recovery. With Pant not fully fit, Dhruv Jurel will continue to take on wicketkeeping duties on Day 2 at Lord’s.
BCCI posted, X: “Rishabh Pant is still recovering from the hit on his left index finger. The BCCI medical team continues to monitor his progress. Dhruv Jurel will continue to keep wickets on Day 2.”

India in big trouble in Lord’s Test as Rishabh Pant’s availability uncertain
Since 2017, the rules allow teams to use a substitute wicketkeeper during a match, but the substitute is not allowed to bat. This could be a big problem for India if Rishabh Pant is unable to bat at Lord’s. The left-handed batter has been in outstanding form in the ongoing five-match Test series.
The wicketkeeper has already scored 342 runs in four innings at an average of 85.50, including two centuries and a fifty. His highest score was a brilliant 134 at Headingley, where he scored hundreds in both innings and achieved a number of milestones.

Losing him with the bat would be a huge blow for the team, as India’s vice-captain is one of the most dangerous middle-order batters in Test cricket. Over the years, Pant has smashed several records as a wicketkeeper-batter.
England looks to finish strong in the first innings against India
He has already surpassed MS Dhoni for the most Test centuries by an Indian keeper and holds the record for the highest run tally by an Asian wicketkeeper in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries.
Notably, England’s current score stands at 292/7, with Jamier Smith and Brydon Carse trying to take the host into a competitive total against India in the ongoing third Test at Lord’s. Presently, the ongoing five-match Test series is tied at 1-1, and now both teams are desperate to win the Lord’s Test.
