I was planning to stay till the last 2 overs, but unfortunately I got out - Riyan Parag
Being invited to bowl first in the match, RR had a poor outing as they allowed KKR to post 206/4 on the board. Chasing the target, Riyan Parag played a sensational knock of 95 runs, with 6 consecutive sixes, and after his dismissal, Shubham Dubey slammed unbeaten 25 runs, but he was unable to score 3 runs on the last ball and RR were restricted to 205/8.
Speaking after the match, Riyan Parag blamed himself for the Rajasthan Royals' loss, saying that there was a big miscalculation from his side. He stated:
"I was planning to stay till the last 2 overs, but unfortunately I got out in the 18th over. It was a miscalculation from my side. I think we could have found better options in the last 6 overs. Maybe other bowling options. No one to complain but ourselves, we should have finished it. We could have done something else in hindsight."
We weren't clinical on the field and the consequences are here - Riyan Parag
Riyan Parag further lauded KKR batter Andre Russell for his heroics and said that the pitch was a tricky one. He said:
"He (Russell) was 2 off 10 balls and the way he accelerated after that, it was great to watch. It's a ground where sixes are hit. The wicket was a little tricky, so I had to pick my battles. I think I did it pretty well, until the time I got out."
Riyan Parag was also disappointed with the fielding efforts of his team. He stated:
"I have been telling that to myself, feels off to give an interview (as the losing captain.) We weren't clinical on the field and the consequences are here."
RR also lost the previous IPL match against KKR
In their previous Indian Premier League 2025 clash, the Rajasthan Royals lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 8 wickets on March 26 in Guwahati.
Despite a strong start in the powerplay, RR batting faced a batting collapse and eventually posted a below-par total of 151/9 on the board.
Sanju Samson was cleaned up by Vaibhav Arora for 13, while Yashasvi Jaiswal fell to Moeen Ali for 29. Riyan Parag played a quickfire knock of 25 runs but he was dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy. From 67/1, RR slipped to 82/5 and despite Dhruv Jurel’s good 33 runs and a quick 16 runs from Jofra Archer, RR couldn’t cross 160.
While defending, RR started poorly. KKR opener Moeen was run out early, but Quinton de Kock took the game away from Rajasthan Royals, slamming 97* runs off 61 balls. Wanindu Hasaranga was the only wicket-taker in the innings while the rest of the players failed, resulting in the run-chase being completed in 17.3 overs.
