Continuing his red-hot form with the bat in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023 (SMAT 2023), Riyan Parag, on Friday (October 27), created history. The right-handed batsman scored yet another half-century in the competition as he played an unbeaten knock of 57 runs for Assam against Kerala.

Asked to bat first, Kerala could only post a modest total of 127 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. At one stage, they were reeling at 63 for 6 before an unbeaten stand of 64 runs between Abdul Basith and Sachin Baby guided them to a respectable total. Basith top-scored for his side with 46. For Assam, Mrinmoy Dutta and Avinov Choudhury picked up two wickets each.

In reply, Assam started poorly too, and were reeling at 48 for 3. They kept losing wickets at crucial intervals and were 8 down for just 101 runs. However, Riyan Parag stood firm at one end and scored an unbeaten fifty to help his team register a hard-fought win. His 57-run match-winning knock came off 33 balls and was studded with 1 four and 6 sixes.
