Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Robin Uthappa has boldly picked Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as his finalists for the IPL 2025. Robin Uthappa boldly reiterated that the IPL 2025 final will be played between PBKS and RCB on June 3 in Ahmedabad.
Punjab Kings are already in the top two after their seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in their final league match in Jaipur on May 26. They have 19 points and are sitting at the top of the table. Their bowlers are doing well, and the team looks strong to lift their maiden title.
Robin Uthappa backs Punjab Kings and RCB for the title clash
On the other hand, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru are currently third on the IPL 2025 points table with 17 points and still have one game left. If RCB beats Lucknow Super Giants in their final league match on May 27 and improves their net run rate, they can move to the top spot.
Well, Robin Uthappa feels both the PBKS and RCB teams are playing great cricket at the right time, and they have the brightest chances to make it to the finals. The cricket pundit said that the Punjab Kings have found their momentum at the perfect time ahead of the IPL 2025 playoffs.
Robin Uthappa said on JioStar, “I've said it from the beginning; I believe it's going to be Punjab and RCB. They've got momentum on their side and have started bowling well. I have a strong feeling the final is going to be between RCB and Punjab.”
'They need to close out games effectively'
RCB has found momentum, and Virat Kohli is looking solid. With Josh Hazlewood back, the former Indian batter has pointed out that their bowling attack also looks stronger, and players like Yash Dayal and Krunal Pandya are also performing well, which boosted their chances.
Uthappa further explained, “They need to close out games effectively, and Virat Kohli has to be the chase master we know he is — batting through the 20 overs. When he does that, it builds pressure on the opposition, especially in the death overs.
The bowlers also need to step up. I'm glad Josh Hazlewood is back, which will help Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) too. Yash Dayal has been decent at the death overs. Suyash faltered in the last game, but if he returns to being disciplined, like he was at the start of the IPL, he'll be effective again. And Krunal Pandya has also been bowling well.”
Robin Uthappa praises Shreyas Iyer's captaincy in IPL 2025
On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer has impressed Robin with his captaincy, leading PBKS to the IPL playoffs after 11 years. The former batter said that Iyer left KKR after feeling overlooked and joined a team that doesn’t have much of a success story, and turned things around with his leadership, and that's totally commendable.
Uthappa signed off by saying, “Shreyas has always been an exceptional captain. You always sensed that he felt underappreciated at KKR despite adding value there. He moved to a franchise where not much had been achieved historically—and then went on to win it for them. That says a lot about his leadership and belief.”
