Roger Binny, a former Indian cricketer and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, is likely to replace Sourav Ganguly as the new Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president.
The former Indian captain, who has been the BCCI president for the past three years, will resign from his post during the Board’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on October 18.
Roger Binny Likely To Become 36th Board President
The 67-year-old, who hails from Banglore, would become the 36th Board president. Jay Shah, son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will continue as the BCCI Secretary for the second consecutive term. Apart from this, Shah will replace Ganguly as India’s representative at the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board.
Binny is currently serving as an office bearer of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). He previously served on the BCCI Selection Committee. According to sources, Ganguly is being considered as the next chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The BCCI elections will be held on October 18 in Mumbai, with nominations being filed on October 11 and 12. Rajeev Shukla Is The Frontrunner To Be the Next Vice-President
According to the sources, Rajeev Shukla is the frontrunner to be the next BCCI vice president. Assam Cricket Association secretary Debojit Saikia and Delhi and District Cricket Association head Rohan Jaitley are both running for the post of joint secretary. Arun Dhumal, the current BCCI treasurer, and Ashish Selar are both expected to contest the treasurer post. According to reliable sources, Dhumal is also being considered as the future IPL chairman.
ANI had earlier reported that Binny’s name appeared in the BCCI’s Draft electoral rolls (posted on the BCCI website) on Thursday as the representative of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) instead of KSCA secretary Santosh Menon for the October 18 elections and annual general meeting. All this fueled the rumours that the former seamer was in the running for the post of BCCI president.
