Rohan Jaitley has dismissed the reports claiming that he will succeed Jay Shah as the next BCCI secretary. Rohan Jaitley is currently the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

Ever since the reports had emerged of Jay Shah leaving his post as BCCI secretary to nominate for the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman, Jaitley's name was coming up and he was believed to be the frontrunner for the role.

But Rohan Jaitley has cleared the air and denied such reports. Jaitley made his plans crystal clear on August 26 (Monday) that he won't take over any assignments at the BCCI level.

He also claimed that he is more focused on making the ongoing Delhi Premier League a popular one.

Currently, Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium is hosting the Delhi Premier League in which six teams from different zones of the union territory are taking part. It is the inaugural season of the league.

In terms of performance in the Ranji Trophy, Delhi hasn't had the best of years. The team has gone through many internal fights which has affected the team's performances over the years.

Due to this reason, some prominent names from Delhi like Nitish Rana and Dhruv Shorey have left to play Ranji Trophy for other teams.

Delhi last won the Ranji Trophy way back in 2007-08 when Gautam Gambhir led the side to the title win.

Since then, the side has struggled and their performances have gone down with every season. They reached the final in 2017-18 but lost to Vidarbha in the summit clash.

Will Jay Shah join ICC?

Meanwhile, Rohan Jaitley's denial has made the race even more interesting. But it all depends if Jay Shah leaves the post.

Shah is yet to formally announce his resignation as BCCI secretary but a decision is expected to come soon.

If Shah opts to stand in the race for ICC chairman, he is likely to face no trouble as he already has the members in his favor.

If he becomes the ICC chairman, his tenure will be of three years and will begin from December 1.

Greg Barclay, who is currently the ICC chairman, has already decided not to contest for the role anymore. Barclay is currently serving his second term in the role. His decision not to contest the elections has made the path easier for Jay Shah.

Jay Shah's epic tenure as BCCI secretary

Jay Shah has emerged as a renowned cricket administrator in recent times. He has brought several reforms in Indian cricket during his tenure and has worked hard towards the welfare of the game in the country. His tenure as BCCI secretary still has one more year left.

During his tenure, he also focused on making the players value domestic cricket more rather than the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL). Finding his replacement in the BCCI won't be easy but he can return to the post once his cooling-off period ends.
