Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has picked India’s biggest game changer in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The Men in Blue have sealed their spot in the final with a thumping 70-run win over New Zealand in the semifinal earlier this week.
India had entered the semifinals in a dominating fashion after winning all of their nine league games. They are the only unbeaten side in the competition and would be desperate to finish the tournament undefeated. All of India’s players have played a key role in the stunning march to the final. Every player has managed to live up to the expectation and deliver whenever the team needed his services in the ongoing competition.
Gautam Gambhir picks India’s biggest game changer:
The way India’s players have performed in the World Cup so far, it won’t be an easy task to pick just one player as a game changer. Gautam Gambhir, however, has picked middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer as India’s game changer in 2023 World Cup. The India great snubbed the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami to call Iyer the biggest game changer of the team.
Speaking on Star Sports, the World Cup-winner heaped praise on the Mumbai star for his quickfire century against New Zealand in the semifinal. He also said that Iyer will be key for India in the upcoming World Cup final.
“Shreyas Iyer is the biggest game changer for me in this World Cup. He was injured, had to fight for his place, and to score a century in 70 balls in the knockout is simply outstanding. He’ll be the key for India in the Final when Maxwell and Zampa bowls,” said Gautam Gambhir.

In 10 games so far, Iyer has scored 526 runs at an average of 75 and a strike-rate of 113. He has also struck two centuries and three half-centuries. Team India will lock horns against Australia in the final for a third World Cup title. The highly-anticipated title-decider is scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (November 19).
