As per the latest reports from Revsportz reporter Rohit Juglan, Rohit Sharma is reportedly unhappy after being snubbed as the Indian captain. Moreover, it has been reported that the former Indian skipper didn't revert to Ajit Agarkar's plea of playing for India A.
The BCCI had made a bold call on Saturday, announcing that Shubman Gill will take over as the captain of the Indian team. The 38-year-old Rohit has led India through their invincible campaigns in ICC tournaments. However, being picked for the Australia series, this is the first time Rohit Sharma will play under the leadership of Shubman Gill.
Rohit Sharma unhappy with the Indian management and Ajit Agarkar after the Captaincy snub
Rohit Sharma is often regarded as one of the greatest captains in the history of Indian cricket. He led India to a victory in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup and then later in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy; however, he had one last dream to lead India to an ODI World Cup title, having missed it back in the home World Cup of 2023.
Despite his increasing age, Rohit resorted to a rigorous fitness regime to stay fit for the ICC World Cup 2025. Considering the communication from the Indian management, Rohit might not be likely to be considered for the upcoming World Cup.
This has led to large-scale implications, as Rohit Sharma is reportedly disgusted with the Indian management. "Rohit Sharma is not happy with this decision," claimed Rohit Juglan.
Juglan has also reported that when Ajit Agarkar asked if he was willing to play the India A series against Australia A, Rohit didn't revert to the national selector.
Ajit Agarkar clarifies decision to ditch Rohit as ODI Captain
Ajit Agarkar's sudden move made Shubman Gill the captain of the Indian side in both Tests and ODIs, meaning India will no longer have three different captains across three formats of the game.
BCCI's chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, explained why it was necessary to shift the captaincy at this moment. Until recently, India had three captains in three formats, but now they will have Shubman Gill in Tests and ODIs and Suryakumar Yadav in T20s.
"It's practically impossible to have three different captains for three formats, just in terms of planning," Agarkar said in the squad announcement press conference.
"I do not see Virat and Rohit playing in the 2027 World Cup" - David Gower
Some former cricketers, as well as cricket analysts, have provided their valuable insights on the two Indian superstars playing the next World Cup, while some have also lauded the Indian management for picking Shubman Gill as the skipper for forthcoming tournaments.
"I do not see Virat and Rohit playing in the 2027 World Cup... Pant, yes, despite being injury-prone. The team will rely on young leaders like Gill to shape the future. This is a perfect opportunity for him to step up and guide India to success," said David Gower in an interview with Cricket Predicta.
"This is an excellent decision by the selectors. Making Gill captain is a forward-looking move. He will be prepared for the World Cup. Now it will be interesting to see how Rohit Sharma performs under Gill's leadership," Madan Lal backed Shubman Gill's appointment as the Indian skipper, as quoted by ANI.
