India’s senior opening batter Rohit Sharma had a bizarre start to his New Zealand tour as he was dismissed for a first-ever ODI duck against the Blackcaps in the five-match ODI series opener at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday, November 4.

Chasing the easy target of 186 runs, the India National Cricket Team suffered an early setback as Rohit Sharma departed for a duck after failing to handle a stunning Kyle Jamieson delivery. Earlier, 'Flying' Rohit Sharma's fielding brilliance sent Daryl Mitchell packing in 1st ODI.

Rohit Sharma departs for a duck as Kyle Jamieson gives New Zealand early breakthrough

The New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson bowled a full delivery outside the off stump, which moved away after pitching. Rohit Sharma tried to play a gentle shot towards the off side but failed to time it properly. He did not commit fully to his shot and ended up chipping the ball into the air towards mid-off.

Captain Mitchell Santner showed excellent presence of mind as he quickly moved forward and completed a brilliant diving catch just inches above the ground. Rohit looked extremely disappointed as he shook his head and walked back to the dressing room without opening his account.

The cautious approach of the former Indian captain, who faced six balls before departing for a duck, proved costly for him and his team as New Zealand got the massive breakthrough.
