Watch Rohit Sharmas Fielding Brilliance Sends Daryl Mitchell Packing In 1st ODI

Rohit Sharma once again showed why he is still such an important player for the India National Cricket Team. Rohit Sharma produced a brilliant fielding effort to help India get the big wicket of Daryl Mitchell in the first ODI against New Zealand in Auckland.

The former Indian captain’s quick movement and smart throw left the New Zealand batter with no chance to return to his crease in the five-match ODI series opener on Wednesday, November 4. Earlier, Gurnoor Brar took a one-handed blinder to dismiss Tom Latham in IND vs NZ 1st ODI.

Rohit Sharma stole the spotlight during Axar Patel's over when the ball was pushed gently towards the leg side by Glenn Phillips. Rohit, who was standing at mid-wicket, noticed the opportunity and rushed towards the ball at Eden Park in Auckland.

There was a little confusion between Mitchell and Phillips as both batters were unsure whether to take the single. They hesitated for a moment, and that was enough for Rohit to make his move. After collecting the ball quickly, Rohit did not even think twice and released a sharp underarm throw towards the wicketkeeper's end.

KL Rahul was alert behind the stumps and did the rest of the job perfectly. He collected Rohit's throw and quickly removed the bails before Mitchell could get back inside his crease. The New Zealand batter was caught well short, as India got a much-needed breakthrough in the match.

Glenn Phillips' unwanted run-out record continues as Daryl Mitchell suffers first-ever ODI run-out

It was a very important wicket for India, especially considering Mitchell's recent record against them. The right-handed batter had scored four centuries and two half-centuries in his last seven innings against India. Mitchell had to walk back after scoring 28 runs off 41 balls in Auckland.

The run-out added an unwanted record to Glenn Phillips' international career. This was the 12th time Phillips was involved in a run-out in international cricket, and his batting partner was dismissed on 11 of those occasions.

Interestingly, the incident was the first time Daryl Mitchell had been dismissed through a run-out in ODI cricket. Earlier, Shubman Gill warns New Zealand, says India can beat any team in any conditions.

New Zealand create unwanted record against India

New Zealand has found itself in a tough situation after losing their first five wickets for less than 100 runs in the first ODI against India and making an unwanted record. This was the ninth time in the last 10 years that they have suffered such a collapse on their own ground.

Their record in these situations has been worrying, as the Black Caps have lost seven of the previous eight matches. The only time they managed to win was against the Netherlands in 2022. They have already lost seven wickets for just 117 runs inside 29 overs in the first ODI against India in Auckland.

India went with four fast bowlers—Anshul Kamboj, Auqib Nabi, Gurnoor Brar, and Arshdeep Singh—and two all-rounders—Naman Dhir and Axar Patel—and this combination worked fantastically for them so far in the five-match ODI series opener at Eden Park in Auckland.
