India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma will continue in his role as both Test and ODI captain for a while. As per the reports in Dainik Jagran, it is learned that the senior batter himself has said that he will be leading the team till the BCCI finds a suitable successor.
The review meeting conducted by the BCCI to address the poor performances of the India National Cricket Team of late took place in Mumbai on Saturday. BCCI officials, along with chief selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and skipper Rohit Sharma were involved in discussions.

One of the top topics of the meeting was the future captain of the Indian Test and ODI team. It is reported that Rohit Sharma has decided to continue as a leader in both formats until the selectors pick his successor.
As per the reports, Rohit told BCCI that "he will remain the skipper for the next few months until the board chooses the future captain" and that whoever is picked will have his “full support.” It was also decided that he will be leading the team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
However, a decision related to his successor will be taken after the ICC Champions Trophy. Currently, India is captained by Rohit Sharma in Tests and ODIs, while Suryakumar Yadav was appointed as the captain of the team in the T20I format after the T20 World Cup 2024.

The reports added that there were discussions related to giving Test captaincy to Jasprit Bumrah as well. He led the team in two games in Australia in the absence of Rohit Sharma. But there were a few questions related to him getting the captaincy in the longest format of the game.
There were apprehensions that Bumrah could lead India in a five-match contest amid workload management issues. The premier fast bowler, after playing four games in Australia, got injured during the fifth game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, and since then, concerns have been related to his fitness.

The BCCI also discussed the poor performance of Virat Kohli during the meeting. It is learned that the officials decided to give some time to the batter, and talks related to his place in the team, along with the poor performances, will be done after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
BCCI also wants all the big players to play in the domestic circuit. However, if any player opts out due to workload management, then he will have to get permission from the physios, head coach, and selectors. The governing body also stressed on giving more importance to the fitness of players.
