Rohit Sharma breaks silence, reveals emotional regret over missing T20 World Cup 2026

Former World Cup-winning Indian captain Rohit Sharma was present during the India vs Pakistan match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at the R. Premadasa Stadium. During the match, he revealed that he misses being part of the Indian squad in a T20 World Cup since the veteran has played for them in all T20 World Cups since the inauguration of the ICC event.
India continued their unbeaten run in ICC T20 World Cups since 2024. Under Rohit Sharma's leadership, India had secured victories throughout all games of the ICC T20 World Cup. Under Suryakumar Yadav, they have made a stunning start with three back-to-back group-stage wins in the home World Cup.
India are defending their ICC T20 World Cup title in India and Sri Lanka; however, the main challenges for the Men in Blue would be in the next stage when they clash against the top qualified teams from the group stages of the tournament.

The ICC T20 World Cup was started back in 2007, and Rohit Sharma has been part of the competition ever since. India have not played a single T20 World Cup without the veteran batter. The batter is also the highest T20I run-scorer from India and the second-highest overall.
After having missed out on a T20 World Cup squad for the first time in his career, since, he announced his retirement from the format following his success in the 2024 World Cup. Sharma, however, has admitted to missing being a part of the competition.
"Playing for India and representing your country is a different feeling altogether, so it is something i really miss. But I am happy with it; You know I had my time, and I enjoyed playing all the World Cups that I did, now it's just sitting back at the other side of it and watching the game," said Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma mentions India's biggest challenge in ICC tournaments
Speaking from his vast experience of ICC tournaments, Rohit Sharma opined that everyone who plays against India in recent times wants to defeat them, as it would account for a major upset. However, this is what heightens the pressure on the opposition as well as the Indian side.
"Just enjoying watching these guys play. They have a good start to the World Cup and I hope they continue like that. Whoever plays against India, they obviously want to try and beat India. Hence, it becomes more challenging for the opposition and for us," the former Indian captain opined.
"Sri Lanka never disappoints," Rohit Sharma credits Lankan fans
The former Indian captain now plays only the ODI format for India. However, having played several times in the Lankan islands, Sharma pointed out that the Sri Lankan crowd is very enthusiastic about the game and they never fail to boost the morale of visiting players.
"As you can see, the crowds are already, you know, charged up. Sri Lanka never disappoints. I have come here so many times, and by no means have I left disappointed in terms of the support when you talk about the fans.
