Team India’s senior captain Rohit Sharma took to X(formerly Twitter) to extend his support to the Indian U-19 team, which is gearing up to go head-to-head against Australia for the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup finale at the Sahara Park Willowmoore Cricket Stadium in Benoni where the Aussies have already won the toss and elected to bat first.

Rohit Sharma, whose Indian team endured back-to-back final losses against Pat Cummins’ Australia, first in the World Test Championship finale in June 2023 and then in the ICC Cricket World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium back in November last year.

“Go well, boys! 🇮🇳💪” – Rohit Sharma wrote.

The Indian U-19 team will be aiming to clinch their 6th U-19 World Cup title and they are just a step away from defending the title they won in the previous edition in 2022 by beating England in the final by 4-wickets at the Sir Vivian Richards stadium.

The previous title was won under the captaincy of Yash Dhull and now the onus is on Uday Saharan to deliver another U-19 trophy. But for that, the boys in blue will have to beat a tough competitor i.e Australia, a team that won the inaugural edition back in 1988.

This is the 3rd straight finale between India and Australia in an ICC event following last year’s WTC and CWC finals. The Aussies have walked away with delight and the trophy on both occasions but the U-19 Indian team will look to avenge the senior team’s disappointing losses.

Uday Saharan’s side have remained undefeated throughout the tournament and they have registered some very big wins in the tournament, something senior skipper Rohit Sharma also helped his team achieve in the CWC 2023 before unfortunately losing the finale clash.

In the group stages of the U-19 WC, India maintained a 100% win record in the group stages with wins against Bangladesh, Ireland and USA before clinching all of their second group matches against Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, New Zealand and Nepal.

Australia on the other hand are also in the finals without losing a single match. In the group stages, Australia claimed victories against Sri-Lanka, Zimbabwe and Namibia in Group C before claiming victories over West Indies, South Africa, England, Sri-Lanka and Zimbabwe.

All of their hard work will require a lot more of hard work today and a bit of luck as well, something the senior Indian team pretty much lacked in CWC 2023.

Rohit Sharma is the latest and perhaps the only senior Indian cricketer to have given his support to the U-19 team. The match is being seen as a breeding ground for getting revenge over the Aussies.
Meanwhile if we talk about the match then Australia have started off the 1st innings strongly after losing their first wicket. Pacer Raj Limbani led to the removal of opening batter Sam Konstas for an 8 ball duck with a wonderful tailing inswinger that went on to strike the stumps. At the time of writing, Australia are 85/1 after 19 overs.
