Rohit Sharma became only the fifth batter to score 1000 ODI runs against Australia

Overall, Rohit Sharma became only the fifth batter to score 1000 ODI runs against Australia in their own backyard. The current record is held by the legendary West Indian Viv Richards who scored 1905 runs in 40 matches. Richards is followed by his compatriot Desmond Haynes and Sri Lankan duo Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.

Rohit Sharma top scores for India:

Rohit Sharma was the highest scorer for Team India in the second ODI. The former India skipper scored 73 runs off 97 balls with the help of 7 fours and 2 sixes. While Rohit usually loves to play attacking cricket, he decided to mix caution with aggression in the second ODI after the team lost two wickets inside 7 overs.

India were reeling at 17/2 at one stage before Rohit and Shreyas Iyer steadied the ship with a 118-run stand for the third wicket. Mitchell Starc broke the partnership by dismissing Rohit in the 30th over. Rohit's dismissal once again derailed India's innings as they kept losing wicket at regular intervals.

Iyer departed in the 33rd over for 61 runs while the likes of KL Rahul (11), Washington Sundar (12) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (8) failed to impress. Axar Patel played an important knock of 44 runs before being dismissed by Adam Zampa in the 45th over.

Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh shine

Harshit Rana (24*) and Arshdeep Singh (13) then came up with useful cameos to help India post a competitive total of 264/9 in the allotted 50 overs. For Australia, Zampa starred with the ball, taking 4 for 60.

India will be hoping that the score turns out to be more than enough as they eye a series-leveling win. The tourists need to win the match at any cost to keep the three-match series alive.
