Rohit Sharma creates history, surpasses Babar Azam after India's semi-final win over England

India captain Rohit Sharma has surpassed Babar Azam after the semi-final win over England in the T20 World Cup 2024. India were excellent on the day and put in a complete performance to crush England's hopes.

With this win, India have now moved to the T20 World Cup final for the third time in history. The Men in Blue will face South Africa in the final to be played on June 29 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. South Africa had earlier defeated Afghanistan by 9 wickets in the first semi-final.

Rohit Sharma breaks Babar Azam's record

With the win over England, Rohit Sharma became the most successful captain in T20I history. Rohit has now led India to a record 49 wins from 61 matches in T20I cricket at a brilliant win percentage of 78.68.

The Indian captain will want the 50th win to be India's T20 World Cup 2024 final win over South Africa, which will be memorable for him.

On the other hand, Babar Azam has led Pakistan to 48 wins in 85 T20Is at a win percentage of 56.47. Babar has dropped to the second spot on the list.

The Pakistan skipper had a disappointing tournament in the T20 World Cup 2024 where he scored 122 runs in four matches. Pakistan were eliminated from the group stage of the tournament after a shocking defeat to the USA.

Rohit Sharma is having an outstanding tournament so far as a captain and as a batter. The opening batter has scored 248 runs in seven matches so far at an average of 41.33 and a strike rate of 155.97.

Rohit's two out of three half-centuries this tournament have come against strong teams Australia and England. In the last Super 8 game, he scored a blistering 92 off 41 balls against Australia, which included 7 fours and 8 sixes.

Following that, in the big semi-final against England, he repeated his heroics by giving India a good start and to-scored in the match scoring a crucial 57 off 39 balls.

The 37-year-old also became the second-highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup history with 1211 runs from 43 innings at an average of  35.61 and a strike rate of 132.78. He is just five runs behind his teammate Virat Kohli on this list.

Rohit Sharma's form augurs well for his team who will hope their captain leads from the front in the final as well. India will face South Africa in the final which will be played on June 29 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.

Rohit Sharma has scored 4222 runs from 158 matches in his decorated T20I career. He has scored these runs at an average of 32.22 and a strike rate of 140.82. In this T20 World Cup, he also became the leading run-scorer in T20Is by surpassing Babar Azam. The Indian captain has scored five hundred in his T20I career, which is the joint-most for any batter.
