Rohit Sharma equals Sachin Tendulkar's incredible record after century in fifth Test vs England

Rohit Sharma, on Friday (March 8), scored a brilliant century to put India in a commanding position in the ongoing fifth Test against England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
Asked to bowl first, India bowled out England for just 218 runs on day one. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave the hosts a flying start by adding 104 runs for the first wicket. At stumps on day 1, India were on 135 for 1. Rohit and Shubman Gill started the proceedings with the bat on day two and put India in the driver’s seat by scoring centuries. India scored as many as 129 runs in the first session and did not lose any wicket.

Ben Stokes finally broke the stand by dismissing Rohit for 103. The veteran opener’s knock came off 162 balls and was studded with 13 fours and 3 sixes. Four runs later, James Anderson bowled Gill for 110 to give England another much-needed wicket. At the time of writing this report, India were on 299 for 3.

Thanks to the brilliant century, Rohit Sharma has added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap. He has equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most centuries by an Indian after the age of 30. Tendulkar registered 35 centuries in 308 innings after the age of 30. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has registered 35 centuries in 260 innings.
The Indian captain needs one more century to break Tendulkar’s record and become the sole owner of the record for most centuries by an Indian after 30. Tendulkar and Rohit are also the only batters from India to score 30 or more centuries after the age of 30. Rahul Dravid (26), Virat Kohli (18) and Sunil Gavaskar (15) complete the top five.
The overall record is held by former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara who scored 43 centuries followed by Matthew Hayden and Rick Ponting who notched up 36 centuries each. Rohit and Tendulkar are joint third.
