Mumbai Indians announced Hardik Pandya as their new captain for the upcoming 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League. Hardik was traded to the Mumbai-based franchise from Gujarat Titans ahead of the auctions. Fans were not happy after Rohit Sharma was replaced as Mumbai Indians skipper for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Rohit took over the captaincy of Mumbai Indians in 2013 from Ricky Ponting and the decision changed fortunes for them. Rohit Sharma has captained Mumbai Indians in nine seasons and out of those nine seasons, Mumbai Indians won the title five times. Under Rohit Sharma, players like Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya himself flourished.

Rohit Sharma’s fans were agitated about the decision taken by Mumbai Indians to replace Rohit Sharma as the captain of the team. A video of a fan burning the Mumbai Indians’ jersey has been going viral on social media platforms. Fans are particularly not happy with the decision to make Hardik Pandya the captain of the franchise.

Fans have started to trend the hashtag #ShameOnMI on Twitter and the franchise has lost over a million followers on Instagram after they announced Hardik Pandya as their new captain. Rohit fans are commenting that they are not going to support Mumbai Indians from here on. Rohit Sharma changed the fortunes of Mumbai Indians after he got the responsibility to lead the side. However, Mumbai Indians shared an emotional post paying tribute to Rohit Sharma on their social media.

Hardik started his career in 2015 with Mumbai Indians and won four IPL trophies with the franchise as a player. He then left the franchise before the 2022 season moving to Gujarat Titans as he got the opportunity to lead the side. Hardik Pandya succeeded as the skipper of the Gujarat Titans after leading them to the title in their very first season. In 2023, Hardik took Gujarat to the finals but ended up losing it against Chennai Super Kings led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
