Ahead of the much-anticipated Australia tour, Rohit Sharma has been quietly gearing up for the challenge, as he has spent nearly a week at the BCCI Centre of Excellence starting from the 16th of September.

India are all set to tour Australia later this month for a long white-ball tour. They have set their eyes on a 3-match ODI series, which is set to begin on the 19th of October, while this will be followed by a 5-match T20I series starting on the 29th of November.

Former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma makes his much-awaited return to the One-day format. However, he has been snubbed from the role of Indian captain, as Shubman Gill is all set to feature as India's next-gen skipper. The decision came as part of BCCI's two-year plan ahead of the next World Cup.

Rohit Sharma gears up for the Australia tour with an intense practice session

As the tour begins on 19th October, Rohit Sharma had started his preparations on the 16th of September and had spent almost a week at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, as per RevSportz.

While practicing, he was not just going through the motions either, as the practices were made in accordance with the conditions as well as the opposition that he would have to face in Australia next month.

His practice involved hours of batting against tall, fast bowlers, which he had requested during that time. There were days when he extended his sessions further, even after being informed that the scheduled time was up. Outside his norms, he also spent hours in the gym with lighter weights, a group of ten bowlers, and another set of throwdown specialists.

Rohit Sharma's only chance to audition for the upcoming World Cup

Rohit Sharma last played for India in the longer format of white-ball cricket, back in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The tournament marked Rohit's last ICC event as the skipper of the Indian team, while he shrugged off poor form with a match-winning knock of 79 runs in the final against New Zealand.

Rohit then went on to announce his retirement from the longest format of the game in the middle of the IPL; having announced his T20I retirement last year, this marked Rohit's exit from the two international formats of the game.

With Rohit featuring only in ODIs, he is well aware that he will get a maximum of 9 matches ahead of the next World Cup. He will feature in three ODIs against Australia, then against South Africa on home soil in November-December, and lastly against New Zealand next year in January 2026.

Rohit Sharma's numbers in ODIs in Australia

Having made his ODI debut back in 2007, Rohit has appeared in 273 ODI matches throughout his career. He has amassed 11,168 runs in the format and has the greatest record in the form of three double centuries, with the highest individual score of 264.

The Indian great has scored the most runs against Australia, as in 46 games, he has scored 2407 runs. Of these, having played 30 innings on Australian soil, Rohit Sharma, who is known as a master puller, enjoys batting on the bouncy tracks and has amassed 1328 runs at an average of 53.12 and has 5 hundreds to his name.
