Rohit Sharma Is Reckless Claims Ex-KKR Opener In Slamming The Indian Captain

Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s return to the T20I format has not panned out the way he would have wanted it to as the opener is yet to score a single run in the format since coming back. Rohit has 2 consecutive ducks to his name in the ongoing 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan and former India batter Aakash Chopra is quite surprised to see it.
In the 1st T20 at Mohali, Rohit Sharma had to lose his wicket due to a mix-up with fellow opener Shubman Gill which was not his fault. After hitting Fazalhaq Farooqi towards mid-off, Rohit called for a single and ran straight towards the other end but what he could not see or understand was Gill’s unawareness of not hearing his call.
Gill kept gazing at the ball while Rohit shouted at him to go to the other end but the former stayed inside his crease with the latter eventually paying the price. The Indian captain had to leave without scoring a single run after facing just 2 balls during India’s chase of 159 runs.
His comeback in the shortest format was short-lived but his 2nd match since the T20 World Cup semi-final loss against England was even more short and much more questionable. This time he had no one to blame but himself. We all have seen Rohit Sharma’s ultra-aggressive approach for the last 12 months and it was the reason why he got out for a golden duck for the first time in his T20 career.
As he tried to match the template of Yashasvi Jaiswal who ended up scoring 68 at a strike rate of 200, Rohit took a few steps to his left and wanted to go for a biggie in his very first ball but ended up getting clean bowled by Fazalhaq Farooqi to a good length ball which could have easily been struck down.
“Surprising To See Rohit Sharma Get Out Like That”, Aakash Chopra Opines
His golden duck created quite a lot of stir on social media and Aakash Chopra blamed his rash shot selection for his abrupt and weird dismissal.
“It was extremely surprising the way Rohit got out. He was playing just his first ball. He doesn’t play such shots. The ball went and hit his stumps. He got run out in the last match and was bowled for zero in this match. He hasn’t scored a single run in this series thus far.” – Aakash Chopra said.
Chopra further stated that the run-out might not have been his mistake but his golden duck was a result of his own impulsive approach.
“Run-out was not his mistake but the shot selection definitely was. There is no doubt about Rohit Sharma’s form and ability. However, he will have to be in form in the IPL and I feel he will bat like this only. We need 38-40, the runs he was scoring in the ODI World Cup, from his bat.” – Aakash Chopra concluded.
Amid questions regarding his form, there is a wave of talk around the town that Rohit Sharma will be captaining team India instead of Hardik Pandya during the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup later this June.
