Former Team India captain Rohit Sharma found himself in an awkward situation after landing in Mumbai from Jamnagar when a small group of fans crowded around him. Rohit expressed disappointment as the fans tried to grab his hand and force a selfie, warning them before closing his car window and leaving.

The batter was last seen in action in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai. He scored 155 runs against Sikkim, followed by a first-ball dismissal against Uttarakhand. The senior batter will shift focus to international cricket and will represent India in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, starting on January 11.

He initially acknowledged them and even shook hands with one fan. However, the situation quickly got out of control when two fans tried to pull his hand and force a selfie while he was still inside the moving car.

Rohit was clearly upset by their behaviour. He warned the fans, rolled up his car window, and moved on. The incident has since sparked discussion online about fan boundaries and player safety.

Rohit Sharma Enjoyed Stellar 2025 Season

Rohit enjoyed an outstanding 2025, producing one of the best years of his international career. The former India captain led India to the ICC Champions Trophy title and crossed the major milestone of 20,000 international runs during the year.

In ODIs, Rohit reached the No. 1 spot in the ICC batting rankings for the first time. He also became India’s third-highest run-scorer in the format, with his power-hitting grabbing plenty of attention.

The 38-year-old went past Shahid Afridi to become the leading six-hitter in ODI history, breaking the record in November against South Africa in Ranchi. He now has 355 sixes in 279 ODIs.

Rohit finished 2025 with 650 runs in 14 ODI innings at an average of 50.00 and a strike rate of over 100. He scored two centuries and four fifties, with a best score of 121 not out.

Rohit Sharma Eyes 2027 World Cup

With the 2027 World Cup in focus, Rohit Sharma is making every ODI count to remain central to India’s long-term plans. He is set to return in India colours for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, starting on January 11.

Rohit will open the batting alongside Shubman Gill, who is back as captain. Key players Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested as part of workload management ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

With very few ODI series scheduled before the World Cup, India are treating every assignment as crucial in their bid to end a 16-year title drought. Tickets for the opening match in Vadodara reportedly sold out within minutes. Rohit currently sits at No. 1 in the ICC ODI rankings, with Virat Kohli ranked second.
