Ryan ten Doeschate on Rohit Sharma's injury
While speaking to the reporters in Dubai after India's training session, Ryan ten Doeschate informed that Rohit Sharma is alright and has started hitting the nets. He also revealed that Rohit knows how to deal with this injury since he has suffered from it earlier
“He’s alright. As you can see, he’s batting, and he did a little bit of fielding earlier. It’s an injury he’s had before and he knows how to manage it well, and he’s on top of it,” Ryan ten Doeschate told the reporters.
Rohit was seen batting in the nets in what is likely to be India's final net session before their match against New Zealand. He batted in the nets without any warm-ups and looked in good touch while playing his shots.
No injury issues in Team India - KL Rahul
India's wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul had also revealed in the press conference that there are no injuries in the team and they are ready to face New Zealand in their final group stage match.
It was earlier expected that Rohit Sharma might sit out of the match against New Zealand to recover fully for India's semi-final fixture on March 4. In that case, Shubman Gill would be the likeliest option to take over the captaincy role.
However, Rohit is likely to play now given that he looked comfortable in the nets. India will also hope that their captain remains fit for all the matches which will help in continuing their winning momentum.
Rohit is a key player in India's Playing XI with his ability to provide his team fiery starts at the top. Over the years, he has transformed himself from being a batter who struck big scores to the one who plays with intent at the top.
What happened to Rohit Sharma?
Rohit Sharma left the field midway during the match against Pakistan. However, he came back on the field and led his team for the remaining part of the innings. Later, it was revealed that he was suffering from a hamstring injury.
The Indian skipper looked in good form with the bat until he received a sensational yorker from Shaheen Afridi that resulted in his wicket. He scored a quickfire 20 off 15 balls with 3 fours and 1 six.
Overall, he has scored 61 runs in two matches at an average of 30.50 and a strike rate of 119.60. He has shown intent in the powerplay which has allowed his opening partner to settle down and get a big score.
