India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma provided an update about Rishabh Pant, who got injured on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. The game between the teams is underway at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh faced a massive injury scare on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against New Zealand. The batter looked in immense pain and was taken off the field, with Dhruv Jurel rushing to the ground to take the keeping role for the team for the remainder of the day.

Rishabh Pant got injured during New Zealand’s innings when he coped with a blow on his knee while keeping. He attempted to collect a delivery in the 37th over but was hit badly and fell immediately on the ground, with India’s physio rushing out on the field to attend to him.

Rishabh couldn't walk properly after that blow as he was taken off the field. He didn't return to the field then as he was deemed unfit to take part in the day further. There wasn't any clarity about the seriousness of the injury of the keeper-batter, and it made many worried.

But now, skipper Rohit Sharma provided a fitness update about the Rishabh Pant. He said that the keeper-batter got swelling on the knee and confirmed that it was the same knee on which he got surgery after his accident.

Unfortunately, the ball hit straight on his kneecap, the same leg which he's done a surgery on - Rohit Sharma on Rishabh Pant

India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma, however, was optimistic about Rishabh Pant getting fit for the match. He said that they didn't want to take the risk; hence, the keeper-batter didn't come to play again. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

"Unfortunately, the ball hit straight on his kneecap, the same leg which he's done a surgery on. So he has got a little bit of swelling on it. It's tender at this point in time, so it is a precautionary measure. That was the reason for him to go inside. Hopefully, he can recover."

With Rishabh Pant getting injured, it surely would've given Indian team management a massive headache. He faced a massive life-threatening accident in December 2022. He was injured badly on the knee, but after the surgery, he worked hard and made a dazzling comeback.

We didn't apply ourselves to the best of our ability - Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma also spoke about the New Zealand pacers. He admitted that the opposition pacers bowled magnificently well and they used the conditions well. He also said that they didn't apply themselves and weren’t at their best. He elaborated:

"There was assistance and they did well. We didn't apply ourselves to the best of our ability. We didn't play well simply."

India got all out for just 46 runs

India got all out for just 46 runs which speaks about the poor effort from their end. Rishabh Pant was the top run scorer for the team with 20 runs under his belt. Wickets fell like a pack of cards as Matt Henry (five for 15) and William ORourke (four for 22) were all over the hosts. At stumps on Day two, the visitors were 180 for three and had a lead of 134 runs with Rachin Ravindra (22*) and Daryl Mitchell (14*) at crease.
