India’s white-ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma said he is looking forward to work with Indian team’s newly appointed head coach Rahul Dravid.

On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Rahul Dravid will be team India’s next head coach after Ravi Shastri’s departure.

Rahul has had an illustrious playing career and is one of the greats of the game. He has also served Indian cricket as Head of National Cricket Academy (NCA) with distinction,” BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was quoted in a statement issued by the board.

Rahul’s effort at the NCA has nurtured several young cricketing talents who have gone on to represent the country at the international stage. I am hopeful that his new stint will take Indian cricket to new heights,” Ganguly further added.

It will be nice working with Rahul Dravid in future: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, who is likely to be India’s next T20I captain, said that he wasn’t aware about Dravid’s appointment as he was busy playing match against Afghanistan that India won by 66 runs.

Rohit said that it would be a great opportunity to work with Dravid in future.

Is it official ? Obviously we were playing the game so i had no idea. Congratulations to him (Rahul Dravid) for coming back but in different capacity in the Indian team. We look forward to working with him, He’s a stalwart of Indian cricket and it will be nice working with him in the future,” Rohit said in the post-match press conference.

Dravid said that it was an absolute honour for him to take the role of India’s head coach and also appreciated current head coach Ravi Shastri (tenure ends after T20 World Cup) for his efforts with the Indian team.

It is an absolute honour to be appointed as the new head coach of the Indian Cricket Team and I am really looking forward to this role,” Dravid said in a statement issued by BCCI.

“Under Shastri, the team has done very well, and I hope to work with the team to take this forward. Having worked closely with most of the boys either at NCA, U19 and India A setup, I know they have the passion and desire to improve every day.

“There are some marquee multi-team events in the next two years, and I look forward to working with the players and the support staff to achieve our potential,” he added.

Dravid’s first assignment with the India team will be the New Zealand home series, which includes three T20Is and two Tests, starting on November 17.
