Rohit Sharma has opened up about a heartfelt memory as he reflected on winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 for India at the Naman Awards 2024 on Saturday (February 1). The India National Cricket Team had defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final to end their ICC title drought in June 2024.

It was a dramatic final, and Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav were the stars of the T20 World Cup 2024 final as the Men in Blue lifted their first ICC title after more than a decade. Kohli was named Player of the Match for his stunning 76-run knock in Barbados.

The Men in Blue’s historic celebration was delayed due to a hurricane in Barbados, as they were stuck there for a few days after the T20 World Cup 2024 win. And Rohit said that the excitement of winning an ICC trophy felt incomplete without sharing the joy with fans back home.

Rohit Sharma said at the Naman Awards 2024: “Honestly, it took a while for me to realize we won the World Cup. Up until we came to Mumbai, we realized what we actually did. Unfortunately for us in Barbados, we were stuck there because of the hurricane. We were not able to go out. So, three or four days, we were there.”

India’s ODI and Test captain further went on to reveal that until they finally landed in Mumbai, he didn’t realize what they achieved for the country. Rohit has noted that seeing the joy on people's faces and overwhelming love from them made him realize what the team achieved, and it was a memory etched in his heart forever.

Rohit signed off by saying, “And you know when you win an ICC trophy, you want to go and celebrate. And especially if you're not in the country, you want to bring it back to the country and celebrate with the fans. But up until we arrived in Mumbai and we saw the glimpse of it, the next morning when I woke up, I realized it was very, very special what we did.”

Dream 11 presents special ring to ICC T20 World Cup 2024 winners

Notably, Dream 11, the lead sponsor of Team India, has presented a very special personalized ring to each member of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the USA and Caribbean. Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, and some other star players could not attend the Naman Awards 2024, as they were busy with their Ranji Trophy 2024-25 commitments.

Now, the Indian cricket team is gearing up for the next mega event—the ICC Champions Trophy 2025—and this event could be the last dance for some of the senior players, including Rohit and Kohli himself.
