Rohit Sharma doubtful for Afghanistan series: The India National Cricket Team will be taking the field again after months of winning the T20 World Cup 2026. The Men in Blue will be up in a different format from Saturday, facing Afghanistan in a one-off Test match at the New Chandigarh Stadium. Apart from the Test match, they are lined up to play a three-match ODI series with the same team.

Ahead of the ODI series, there has been some serious news that has been developing as Virat Kohli has already been ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury. Now it has been reported that Rohit Sharma is also set to miss the 50-over format game after he suffered a hamstring injury during IPL 2026 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Rohit Sharma to miss Afghanistan series

Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya were included in the ODI team, but BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar made it clear that their availability will be entirely dependent on their fitness, as both had been struggling with injuries during the IPL 2026. Before entering the squad, the two cricketers must pass fitness tests at the BCCI CoE (Centre of Excellence).

Rohit Sharma is yet to report to the CoE in Bengaluru, and according to the report, he is set to miss the series, as the injury looks more serious than before. The former India captain has not been in good form in recent times in the IPL; however, the two formats are completely contrasting.

Rohit Sharma doubtful for ODI World Cup?

Rohit Sharma, despite playing only one format, which is the ODIs, has been in good form. The 39-year-old opener ended the last year as India's second-highest run-getter with 650 runs in 14 matches and innings at an average of 50.00 and a strike rate of 100.46, with a best score of 121*. He was sensational in the series against Australia and then played good knocks against South Africa.

But he did not have the best outing this year against New Zealand, as he just scored 61 runs in three innings with a best score of 25, which raised serious concerns over his form ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. There are still doubts about him travelling to the next World Cup in South Africa.

Virat-Rohit duo to miss Afghanistan series

The veteran missed a few matches of the IPL as well after picking up the injury against RCB. Rohit has scored 283 runs in nine IPL matches this season, with an average of 35.37 and a strike rate of 1576.22, with two fifties and a top score of 84.

Apart from him, Virat Kohli has already been ruled out of the series due to the same injury he picked during the IPL final against the Gujarat Titans. This is a big blow for the Men in Blue side with two of their best 50-over player of this generation being ruled out.
