Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma was present in the stadium to cheer for the Suryakumar Yadav-led team during the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2026 against England. During the match, a viral video captured Rohit Sharma doing something very funny while sitting right next to ICC chief Jay Shah.

Team India defeated England by seven runs in the thrilling encounter at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, March 5. Fans were treated to an absolute run-fest, where 499 runs were scored between the teams. The Men in Blue defended 253 runs to advance to the final of the tournament.

The right-handed batter was sitting right next to Jay Shah, who was using his mobile phone during the match. Suddenly, Rohit leaned over and started peeping into Jay Shah's phone screen to see exactly what he was looking at.

This funny moment of the former captain sneaking a peek at the ICC Chairman's phone became a massive talking point on social media, entertaining fans who were already thrilled to see him in the stands applauding the Indian batters.

Sanju Samson and Jasprit Bumrah Shine for India

On the field, the Indian batters put on a massive show on a batting-friendly pitch. Sanju Samson continued his great form with a match-defining knock of 89 runs off 42 balls to set a great platform. Ishan Kishan (39), Shivam Dube (43), Hardik Pandya (27), and Tilak Varma (21) chipped in with crucial contributions.

In reply, England's Jacob Bethell threatened to run away with the game by smashing a sensational 105 off 48 balls. However, Jasprit Bumrah proved to be the ultimate game-changer in the death overs.

Bumrah held his nerve in the extreme pressure moments, conceding just 15 runs in his final two overs to help India register a narrow seven-run win. Shivam Dube conceded 22 runs in the final over, but that was not enough for England.

India One Step Away from T20 World Cup Glory

After winning this high-voltage semifinal, India will face New Zealand in the summit clash of the 2026 T20 World Cup. This grand final will take place on Sunday, March 8, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

If India beat the Kiwis, they will become the only team in the world to win the T20 World Cup three times. Notably, no team has won back-to-back titles in T20 World Cup history.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma led India to T20 World Cup glory in 2024. He retired from T20Is after the final and also retired from Test cricket last May. The former skipper, who plays only ODIs for India, will next be seen playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
