India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma stepped into a new phase of his career. Rohit Sharma is currently focusing solely on One-Day Internationals, having returned from T20Is last year after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and Test cricket earlier this year.
The Hitman has always been under the spotlight for his fitness; despite this, he has scored plenty of runs and played a key role in India’s success over the years. Since he is now only active in ODIs, India’s ODI captain’s fitness has grabbed more attention than ever.

Rohit was set to return to action for India against Bangladesh along with Virat Kohli, but with that series pushed to next year, now they are gearing up for the upcoming tour of Australia, where India is scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is in October.
Abhishek Sharma poses a threat to Rohit Sharma's ODI spot
Meanwhile, India is gearing up for a high-stakes ODI series in Australia, which is their first 50-over action since the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The series is expected to see the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who now focus exclusively on the format.
Adding more excitement, Abhishek Sharma is set for his maiden ODI call-up for the upcoming Australia series. With 27 ODIs lined up before the ICC World Cup 2017, the Indian cricket team is looking to test fresh combinations at the top of the order.
Shubman Gill is almost certain to hold the opener’s spot, but Abhishek’s inclusion raises questions about whether he could partner Gill, potentially putting Rohit’s long-term place under scrutiny. Another key point is Yashasvi Jaiswal. If Abhishek becomes the reserve opener, Jaiswal could be sidelined in India’s 50-over plans.
Presently, India is gearing up for the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash against Bangladesh. After the Asia Cup 2025, they will host the West Indies in a two-match Test series before heading to Australia for the white-ball games.
