Another alarming moment for the Indian cricket fans as Rohit Sharma receives a knock during the India vs Afghanistan 1st of the 3-match ODI series in Dharamshala.

In the very first over of the second innings, the opener got hit by a bumper off the Afghanistan pacer Azmatullah Omarzai. It was a free hit for Team India, and ‘Hitman’ was on the strike. To prevent the batter from going big, Omarzai hit the short of the length hard to surprise Rohit Sharma.

Physio rushed into the field to have a look at Rohit Sharma

The pacer’s plan worked as the batter did not settle himself to play his trademark pull shot. The ball directly hit his right wrist. Sharma immediately threw the bat to the ground, out of pain.

The physio hurriedly rushed onto the ground to take a look. After a brief medical support, the match continues with Rohit Sharma in the middle.

After receiving the medical support on the ground, Rohit Sharma started batting again. Though his innings did not last long, as Rashid Khan's throw picked up his wicket. Sharma was dismissed for 16 off 16 with a couple of 4s and one 6. When Rohit Sharma lost his wicket, India was on 46 runs inside the 6th over of the second innings.

Rohit was uncertain about facing Afghanistan

Ahead of the ODI series, the 39-year-old's participation in the ODI series was under serious concern because of a hamstring issue. During the IPL 2026 season, Rohit missed a few matches because of a hamstring injury. After returning from recovery, he played only as an impact player for the Mumbai Indians.

The Mumbaikar, who already has a history of hamstring injury, grew more concerned because of the recent knock. As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wanted to assure 100% for all of their players in the squad for the series, he had to prove his fitness at the Board's Center of Excellence (CoE). Sharma joined the team after proving his fitness level at the CoE.

Hardik Pandya has been ruled out entirely from the ongoing ODI series

Another star cricketer, Hardik Pandya, was also at the CoE for a different injury threat. Like Rohit, Pandya also injured himself during the IPL 2026 campaign with the Mumbai Indians. The pace bowling all-rounder was ruled out of a few IPL 2026 matches because of a back spasm.

It was expected to see Pandya in action against Afghanistan in the ODIs as the injury was not serious enough to rule him out of the series entirely. But in a shocking development, he ruled himself out of the 3-match ODI series because of a fresh injury setback.

According to previous reports, at the time when Hardik Pandya was about to receive the clearance from the medical team, he injured himself again.
