Team India captain Shubman Gill takes a stunner to dismiss the Afghanistan tailender AM Ghazanfar in the first of the three-match ODI series between the two sides.

Shubman Gill dives to his left to take a one-handed catch at the slip. The ball was travelling between the wicketkeeper and the first slip.

Shubman Gill takes a one-handed, stunning catch in the India vs Afghanistan 1st ODI.

Shubman Gill, who was posted at the first slip, threw his body to the left and palmed the ball using only his left hand. AM Ghazanfar had departed with a 2-ball duck. It was the third wicket for the debutant spinner Harsh Dubey.

Watch the magnificent catch taken by Shubman Gill here:

For the first ODI, the Indian team management handed Harsh Dubey and Gurnoor Brar their ODI debut caps. Both of the bowlers ended up with three wickets each in their first ODI match. While Dubey claimed 3 scalps for 47 runs in 5 overs, Brar's three wickets came against only 27 runs in 4.5 overs.

Records for Harsh Dubey and Gurnoor Brar

The 3-wicket spell is one of the finest bowling figures produced by any debutant bowlers for Team India in this format. Seamer Prasidh Krishna's record of 4 for 54 against England in 2021 is so far the best-ever bowling return for Team India on ODI debut.

According to Cricbuzz, this is the seventh time in ODI history that two debutants have bagged at least three wickets in a team innings, the third for a full-member side.

Best bowling returns for India on ODI debut
4/54 - Prasidh Krishna vs ENG, Pune, 2021
3/21 - Noel David vs WI, Port of Spain, 1997
3/24 - Varun Aaron vs ENG, Mumbai WS, 2011
3/27 - Gurnoor Brar vs AFG, Dharamsala, 2026
3/30 - Subroto Banerjee vs WI, Perth, 1991

The pitch was not bad for the batters

Due to persistent heavy rain, the 50-overs match was cut short to 25-overs each. In the 35-over limit, Afghanistan scored 194 runs against all ten of their wickets. Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz alone registered a 102-run knock before losing his scalp against Nitish Kumar Reddy. Gurbaz smashed a 48-ball hundred against India tonight, which is now the fastest ever century scored by an Afghanistan player in the ODIs.

Ahead of the toss, former India cricketer, now a cricket expert and commentator, Murali Kartik observed that despite the damp conditions, the pitch looked good for a high-scoring match. It was the Indian bowling unit that restricted the opposing team inside the 200-run mark.

"The pitch was covered for more than 12 hours, but there is no moisture or dampness on the surface; it's just the ground temperature, and it looks like a pretty good surface. It's been a high-scoring venue in the IPL. The ball travels because it's at a high altitude, and this is still gonna be a high-scoring venue. 25 overs a side, which means that it's a truncated game. It's gonna be a big one. Maybe 200, 220 is on the cards, is what I feel. As I said, it's a well-rolled surface, even sprinkling of grass in the good length, and I would say that any side which is going to win the toss is gonna look to chase," Murali Kartik said.
