India National Cricket Team ODI skipper Rohit Sharma was greeted by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis after his Test retirement. The opening batter visited his official residence on Tuesday (13th May).
India National Cricket Team batter Rohit Sharma recently called time on his Test career. The opening batter took to his Instagram account and posted a picture of his Test Cap, saying that he had decided to call time on his career in the longest format of the game.
Ever since Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket, wishes poured in from different sections of the world. The India National Cricket Team ODI skipper also left many shocked with his decision.
Rohit Sharma started his career as a middle-order player in Tests
His decision might have come in the wake of the poor form that he endured since the Test series against Bangladesh. But, ever since he started opening the innings in 2019, he looked a class apart and played a major role in the success of the team both at home as well as overseas.
Rohit Sharma started his career as a middle-order player when he made his debut against the West Indies in November 2013. He slammed a century on his debut but couldn't find a permanent place in the team due to injuries and also the presence of some big players at that time.
But since 2019, he was a regular feature in the Indian Test team and played a brilliant brand of cricket. The opening batter slammed twin centuries against South Africa in Visakhapatnam when he was given the new role, and then scored runs consistently for the team.
Rohit Sharma ended his career as the leading run-getter and century-maker for India in the history of the ICC World Test Championship. The right-hander slammed 2,716 runs at an average of 41.15, including nine centuries and eight fifties, helping India win crucial games with his heroics.
Rohit Sharma also captained India in Tests, and under his leadership, the team reached the final of the ICC World Test Championship in 2023. Overall in his career, he hit 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, including 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. He is India's 16th-highest run-scorer.
