Ahead of the crucial ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Super-8 clash between India and Australia, former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer has stirred the cricket world with his bold prediction about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma amid questions over their future in the format.

Jaffer predicted that Indian cricket team stalwarts Kohli and Rohit might retire from T20 international cricket after the ongoing tournament. The cricket pundit believes that the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 could mark the end of an era for the two legends Kohli and Rohit in T20I cricket.

He even predicted that fans could be watching their heroes' last hurrah in T20I cricket, but mentioned that the final decision rests with Kohli, Sharma, and the Indian selectors. The former Indian batter also hinted that Kohli and Rohit might step away from T20I cricket, but they are likely to continue playing T20 cricket in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube Channel: “I think both of them (Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma) could retire from T20 International cricket after the T20 World Cup 2024. I think it's their call. It's the call of the selectors. But I feel that this could be their last T20 World Cup. They'll probably continue to play IPL cricket. But we're seeing them play for the last time in T20 International cricket.”

Jaffer also predicted that Kohli will break Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of 100 centuries in international cricket, saying his fitness and consistency will help the right-hander create history.

The former Indian cricketer added, “Yes, I think Virat Kohli will score hundred international hundreds. He has a lot of time left and the way his fitness is and the way he scores his runs with consistency, I hundred percent expect him to cross hundred hundreds.”

Wasim Jaffer wants Team India to knock Australia out of T20 World Cup 2024

Speaking about the Super-8 clash against India, Jaffer said that it is a must-win game for Australia after losing their last game to Afghanistan. He added that it will be a tough game in St. Lucia, where the pitch is good for batting, so he is expecting a good game between the two cricketing powerhouses.

In his message to Team India, Jaffer said: “All the people will have to put their hands up in this important game. Because if India wins this match, Australia will be out of this tournament. Which I think will be a big boost for India going forward in the T20 World Cup 2024.”

At the end, the commentator predicted that the Men in Blue would not make any changes to their winning playing XI for the crucial match against Australia. He reckoned that Rohit and Kohli would open against the 2021 T20 World Cup champions in St. Lucia.

Jaffer signed off by saying, “The order will remain the same. And we've had good performances. We've had good totals. So, I don't think we need to change. So, I don't see any major change.”
