Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi lauded India captain Rohit Sharma for his sensational performance as a leader in the T20 World Cup 2024. He said that the skipper of the Indian team set an example for the entire team in the tournament.

India captain Rohit Sharma was one of the biggest factors for Team India winning the T20 World Cup 2024. The leader of the team was sensational throughout the tournament both as a captain as well as the leader and set an example for the entire team in the mega event.

Rohit Sharma was spot on with his tactical changes in the T20 World Cup 2024. He was magnificent with the bowling changes and the field placements that he set. The opening batter also instilled confidence in the entire team and made sure that he led from the front, taking his team to a title win. This also ended the title drought for the Indian team as they won the ICC trophy after 11 years.

Rohit Sharma with the bat was magnificent in the entire tournament. He batted aggressively and led from the front with the bat. He was the leading run-getter for his team in the T20 World 2024 as he scored  257 runs in 8 matches with a strike rate of 156.70. He also slammed three fifties in the tournament, with one coming in the semi-final against England

Shahid Afridi while talking about the role of a leader claimed Rohit Sharma set a perfect example of a skipper during the T20 World Cup 2024. He highlighted how the batter was aggressive right from the start and while speaking to PTI, he explained:

"Look, the role of a leader is always very important. The body language of the leader becomes the body language of the team. The leader has to set an example. Take Rohit Sharma as an example.

"Now, look at his (Rohit's) game and his style of playing; the lower-order batsmen who come in are all confident because the captain likes to play aggressive and attacking cricket. So, I always believe that the role of the captain is very important."

"I don't know what the PCB chairman has in mind now

Shahid Afridi also talked about the captaincy saga of the Pakistan team and claimed that he hopes the Pakistan Cricket Board will find a way to make some changes. He also admitted that they are weak at the grassroots level. He explained:

"I don't know what the PCB chairman has in mind now and I am also waiting to see what changes will be made but I have always supported the team and will keep doing that. I am also waiting to see what these changes will be.

"A positive decision needs to be made, and the changes shouldn't just be superficial. The real issue lies at the grassroots level of our cricket. Our product is weak at the grassroots level, and if we invest there, good players will emerge," he concluded.
