The misery of England’s opening pair of Rory Burns and Dominic Sibley reached a new low on the fifth afternoon as the duo registered an unwarranted record by getting out for ducks.

Burns and Sibley have become the first English opening pair to register ducks in the same innings on home soil.

While Burns registered his 5th duck of the calendar year, Dom Sibley’s dismissal made it the 10th time an England opener has registered a blob in a calendar year.

Just before England’s second innings started Virat Kohli had asked his bowlers to ensure that England batsmen face 60 overs of hell and Burns and Sibley for the first taste of it.

Burns was dismissed in the first over of the game as he ended up mistiming an attempted flick off Jasprit Bumrah straight to Mohammed Siraj at short cover.

Dom Sibley perished in the next over courtesy a peach of a delivery by Mohammed Shami, one that straightened off the seam to take the faintest of edges.

All of a sudden, England was ½ and once again the onus of shepherding the ship fell on Joe Root’s shoulders.

But the hostility of the Indian quartet was too much to handle for even someone like Root, who poked at a back of a length delivery from Bumrah after Tea to hammer the final nail in England’s coffin.

Siraj then proceeded to run through the lower order as he claimed four of the last five wickets while Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with the crucial scalp of Ollie Robinson at the backend as India completed a famous 151-run-win at the ‘Home of Cricket’.
