Former Indian pacer and commentator, Varun Aaron, has shared his insights on the upcoming IPL 2024 eliminator between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 22.
Aaron highlighted that RCB's remarkable streak of six consecutive wins in the ongoing IPL 2024 has significantly boosted the team's confidence heading into the playoffs. He stressed that this winning momentum not only boosted Virat Kohli's confidence but also energized the entire RCB camp.
Varun Aaron predicts RCB to win the IPL 2024 Eliminator against RR
In contrast, the former Rajasthan pacer pointed out that the Sanju Samson-led RR enters the IPL 2024 Playoffs with a lot of uncertainties and doubts, having lost four games in a row in the tournament.
They were hoping to gain momentum in their final league game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), but this match was washed out in Guwahati on Sunday, May 19.
Given the current form and encouraging momentum of RCB, Aaron strongly favors his former Bengaluru-based franchise to win the IPL 2024 Eliminator in Chennai against the RR. He also predicted a very interesting encounter between the RCB and RR due to the contrasting mindsets of both teams.
Varun Aaron said on Star Sports: “Especially when you win six games on the trot and you go into playoffs like this. All it does to you is just heighten your self-belief, not just his but the whole team’s.
So, they will go in with a lot of belief and very contrasting to Rajasthan Royals who’re going in with a lot of doubts. So, it’s going to be a very interesting encounter and I completely back RCB on this one just because of the momentum they’re taking into this encounter.”
Varun Aaron highlights Virat Kohli's quest for the IPL Trophy
The former RCB pacer has further emphasized the significance of an IPL trophy for Virat Kohli. Aaron described the IPL trophy as the "ever-elusive unicorn" for Kohli. He stressed that Kohli's desire to lift the trophy this year is intense, considering his dedication and longstanding commitment to RCB.
Aaron signed off by saying, “He’s got a trophy left because that’s one thing he has not got in all these years. He’s given his heart and soul to this franchise, the fans love him.
Obviously, every other fan from other teams also loves him but that IPL trophy has been that ever-elusive one unicorn I would say for Virat Kohli which he has to get this year. He would want to get that this year.”
Notably, Virat Kohli is enjoying a dream season with the bat for the RCB, and he would like to blaze all the guns in the IPL 2024 Playoffs before heading to the USA for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Kohli is currently the leading run-scorer of the season, with 708 runs to his name from 14 innings at an average of 64.36 and a strike rate of 155.60. The 35-year-old has smashed one century and five fifties in the ongoing IPL 2024. He is also equally fantastic on the field for his team this season.
