Brotherhood between Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav was at its peak after the wicketkeeper-batter took India to the semifinals of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 on March 1.

In a high-pressure T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 clash, India faced a tough chase against the West Indies to enter the semi-finals. The stage was massive and the pressure was intense, but Samson stayed cool and delivered the knock of his life at the packed Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

After the Men in Blue sealed the semifinal spot, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav could not control his emotions. He removed his cap and bowed to Samson near the boundary line. Later, in a video shared by the BCCI on its social media platforms, Suryakumar kept praising Sanju non-stop.

Emotional moment as Suryakumar Yadav bows down to Sanju Samson

Suryakumar Yadav said in the BCCI video, “I always say good things happen to good people and at the right time. No better time, no better stage for someone like him (Sanju Samson) to step up and give the team what the team required. The moment he came into the side, I think the first thing that he said amongst the group when we sat together was, Let's do something which the team wants, not what you want.”

The Indian captain also mentioned why this match-winning knock is special. Over the past year, Samson lost his place in the team. He batted in different positions. He faced criticism. Many questioned his role. On this big night, he showed that spirit.

He attacked smartly and did not rush after a good start. He held one end strong while wickets fell around him. Suryakumar said that Samson, who didn’t get a single game in the last edition, played brave cricket under pressure, which is needed to win the World Cup and ICC tournaments.

He deserves everything: India Captain

Suryakumar further mentioned, “It's not easy to win the World Cup. The World Cups, the ICC tournaments, and the games that you play in ICC tournaments are won by courageous people, and this was a courageous knock. He can already get carried away by a good start, but then the way he was batting, he held one side together and took the team through.

And he deserves all the credit. I'm very happy for him, his wife, his family back home, and all the people who love and support him. We're just one more step closer. Hopefully, this may continue. I have a lot of things to say, but then, I'm very happy. He deserves everything.”

Hearing the praise from the captain, Samson laughed and told him in a funny way to stop, or he might start crying. He said, “Rulayega kya pagle? (Will you make me cry?)”
