Maharashtra and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has yet again taken a sly dig at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as he recently engaged with youngsters at the Super Kings Academy. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is known for his calmness, showed a lighter side with his wit and playful responses, leaving the kids in splits at the Super Kings Academy.

The highlight of the interaction came when the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain asked the children about their favorite IPL teams. When some innocently named Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI), Gaikwad instantly said, “Out, out.”

The Maharashtra batter then began counting the non-CSK fans before adding with a grin, “Everyone will remember your name, and no one will pick you for CSK.” Hearing this, the kids started laughing loudly, with one kid quickly saying, “I like CSK too.”

Well, Gaikwad finished the discussion over the favorite IPL team by saying, “So first is CSK.” However, the fun didn’t stop there, as Gaikwad cheekily replied, “No, I am playing for TSK,” when he was asked if he himself was playing for Chennai Super Kings.

On leading a side with senior players, Ruturaj Gaikwad delivered another gem: “Very good, I enjoyed it a lot. I scolded all seniors.” When he was asked how he would deal with struggling teammates, Gaikwad jokingly gestured like he was giving them a slap before clarifying, “Not in the dressing room, but in front of everyone.”

The 28-year-old batter later gave a thoughtful reply, saying, “I will give him confidence; I will back him.” The youngsters kept the questions flowing, and Gaikwad kept the humor alive.

Meanwhile, Gaikwad has picked New Zealand’s fast bowling icon Trent Boult as the toughest bowler he has faced. A child wants to know what it was like facing Pakistan pace legend Shoaib Akhtar, and the CSK skipper smiled and said, “I was not born yet.”

On being asked about India’s best wicketkeeper, Ruturaj Gaikwad had the entire hall laughing again with, “Best? You didn’t see my keeping? You watch YouTube. Instead of watching Shoaib Akhtar, watch me keeping.” He jokingly ignored MS Dhoni, who is considered one of the game’s greatest ever wicketkeepers.

Notably, Ruturaj Gaikwad was forced to hand over captaincy duties back to MS Dhoni mid-season due to a fractured elbow in the IPL 2025. However, Dhoni later confirmed that the Maharashtra batter will return as CSK captain in the next edition in 2026.

Prithvi Shaw’s century on Maharashtra's debut sparks CSK speculations

On the other hand, Prithvi Shaw made a dream debut for Maharashtra in the Buchi Babu Trophy, smashing a brilliant 111 against Chhattisgarh at Guru Nanak College in Chennai. Despite his heroics, Maharashtra managed only 217 in reply to their opponents’ 242.

The knock marked an emphatic start to Prithvi Shaw’s new chapter after moving to Maharashtra, silencing doubts about his form and fitness.

After his knock, Chennai Super Kings’ official handle added to the excitement by sharing a video where Shaw spoke about his special bond with Chennai. This sparked buzz that Shaw is joining CSK ahead of the IPL 2026.
