South African wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen scored 174 off just 83 deliveries to take his team to 416/5 in 50 overs in the fourth ODI against Australia in Centurion on Sunday. Australia were ahead by 2-1 in the series heading into this game.

Klaasen coming into bat at number five notched up his highest ODI score hitting 13 fours and 13 sixes in the process. Several records were broken in the process as Australia piled up the misery on the Australian bowlers.

Klaasen added a 222-run stand off just 94 deliveries which is the quickest double-century partnership in ODI cricket. The SA keeper now has the second-highest score in ODI cricket after Kapil Dev’s 175 while batting at No.5 or below.

South Africa were 157/3 in the first 32 overs and scored 259/2 in the last 18 overs. Adam Zampa the Australian spinner who went for 1113 off his 10 overs had now delivered the joint-most expensive spell in ODI history.

Australia won the first ODI by three wickets and the second by 123 runs. South Africa came back to win the third ODI by 111 runs. Klaasen scored his century of 52 balls becoming the third quickest South African batter to get there.

He is also the second quickest to get a hundred off just 52 balls against just after Virat Kohli who got to his 100 off 52 balls against Australia in 2013. With 13 sixes in his innings, Klaasen also hit the second-most sixes by a South African batter scoring a hundred.

Australia now need to chase 417 to win the series. A win for South Africa will level the series 2-2 and take the series to the decider.
