SA vs AUS: Dewald Brevis Feels Privileged To Get His Maiden South Africa Call-up, Says "It's The Biggest Thing That Has Happened"

Young South African batsman Dewald Brevis spoke about his feeling after getting his maiden call-up for the T20I and ODI series between the Proteas and the Aussies. Brevis said that it is the biggest thing that has ever happened in his career.

While speaking to Netwerk24, Dewald Brevis said that he feels privileged to be selected for the South Africa cricket team. He added that it was his childhood dream to play for the Proteas and he always worked for that, now that he has achieved it, he is grateful.

“It’s the biggest thing that has happened in my cricket so far. It’s a tremendous privilege for me to be selected for the Proteas. Since childhood, I have always had the dream of playing for the Proteas. I have always worked for it and now to get that opportunity … I am so grateful for it. I can only say thank you to the Lord every day for that,” Dewald Brevis said.

Dewald Brevis, a 20-year-old youngster made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in the 2022 season for Mumbai Indies. He then took part in seven matches and scored 161 runs with a strike rate of 142.48. Brevis’ highest score for the Mumbai-based franchise was 49.

When Tilak Varma made his debut during India’s West Indies tour, Dewald Brevis made a special video to wish his Mumbai Indians teammate for his incredible achievement.

The 20-year-old is called ‘Baby AB’ for his aggressive playing style like the former Proteas skipper, AB de Villiers. Dewald Brevis made headlines when he played a 162-run knock from 57 balls in the CSA T20 last year for the Titans.

The youngster added that he always looks forward to playing in tough situations and now is the perfect time to make his debut. He concluded by adding that he is ready for it.

“I always look forward to and love tough situations and competition, so I can’t wait for the fight. I always tell everyone God’s timing is perfect. I believe that now is the perfect time and I’m ready for it,” Dewald Brevis added.

Aiden Markram-led South Africa will take on Australia in the first T20I match of the three-game series on Wednesday (August 30th) at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium Cricket Ground in Durban.
