Star Australia batsman, Marnus Labuschagne opened up on his non-selection for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 after he played a 124-run knock from 99 balls against South Africa in the second ODI match on Saturday (September 9th) and said that the selection process is totally out of his control.

In the second ODI match, Austra clinched a 123-run win against South Africa after Marnus Labuschagne played a 124-run knock against 99 balls with a strike rate of 125.25. Labuschagne was also named the player of the match following his match in the first inning.

David Warner scored 106 runs after opening the first inning. Travis Head too played a stellar inning and scored 64 runs from 36 balls with a strike rate of 177.78. In the second inning, Adam Zampa led the Aussie bowling attack and took four wickets in his nine-over spell, and gave away 33 runs.

Sean Abbott, Nathan Ellis, and Aaron Hardle all took three wickets in the last inning and stopped the Proteas from chasing the 393-run target.

While speaking at the post-match conference, Marnus Labuschagne said that he is feeling great after scoring a century and still believed that the players could have scored more runs.

However, Marnus Labuschagne had one more regret and said that he could have made more runs in the first inning, and believed that he might have lost a few more runs when the team was running out of wickets.

“It’s always nice, nice to score some runs and obviously to get this win. Yeah, I still think that I left a few runs there. I could have really opened up and get some more 30. But you have to be contented. Not just me, the boys out there. The boys got a lightning start and even when we lost wickets, we managed to get up,” Marnus Labuschagne said.

If I get to go home, I get to see my daughter, if I go to the World Cup, I get to play the World Cup: Marnus Labuschagne

The Aussie player said that his main job is to go on the field and make some runs and not to think about the ODI World Cup 2023 selection.

“It is not under my control [on World Cup non-selection]. I was having a word with Shamsi- My thing is to play my cricket. If I get to go home, I get to see my daughter, if I go to the World Cup, I get to play the World Cup,” he added.

In the prestigious tournament, Australia will take over India in their opening match of the tournament on October 8th at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
