SA vs BAN: South Africa To Take Late Call On Temba Bavuma's Availability For Bangladesh Game

South Africa are reportedly set to take a late call on the availability of their skipper Temba Bavuma for the upcoming game against Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
Temba Bavuma missed his team’s last game against England due to illness. Just before the toss, it was confirmed that the opening batter was not fit to play due to a stomach issue. He was replaced by Reeza Hendricks in the playing eleven while Aiden Markram led the side.
In his absence, South Africa bounced back from the shock defeat against the Netherlands in style by beating the reigning world champions by a record margin on 229 runs in Mumbai. His replacement Hendricks had also done well. Playing his first game in the World Cup, the right-handed batsman scored 85 runs as South Africa piled up 399 runs before bowling out England for 170.
Late call on Temba Bavuma:
The Proteas will take a late call on their captain’s availability for the game. His deputy Markram told the media that the team missed the leadership of Temba Bavuma against England before saying that a final call would be taken before the toss.
“It was not the way you would like things to happen. It was very unfortunate for Temba. We missed his leadership on the field.
“He’s definitely improving. A final call will be made on him tomorrow but he is in better spirits,” said Markram when asked about Temba Bavuma’s chances of playing against Bangladesh.
According to a report in Cricbuzz, the South African skipper attended the net session although he did not train for long. The report stated that he batted for a while although without wearing pads.
It will be interesting to see who makes way for Temba Bavuma in the playing eleven. While Hendricks was expected to make way for the captain, the team-management would have to make a big call after his brilliant performance against England. Bavuma, on the other hand, has struggled in the World Cup so far, registering scores of 8, 35 and 16 so far.
