In an exclusive conversation with TimesofIndia.com, Joe Root, who is now representing the Dubai Capitals in the DP World ILT20 tournament being played in the UAE, talked about England’s plans for the 2023 World Cup and their outstanding success in white-ball cricket.
The first encounter of England’s three-match ODI series in South Africa will take place this Friday, January 27. The other two games are scheduled for January 29 and February 1.
There is no denying England’s current dominance in limited-overs cricket. They won the most recent tournament in Australia to become just the second side, after the West Indies, to win the T20 World Cup championship twice. They are the reigning ODI and T20 World Champions.
When England visits India in October of this year for the championship match, they will now try to defend their ODI World Cup victory.

“There is always pressure around World Cups and big tournaments”: Joe Root
In an exclusive conversation, Joe Root told TimesofIndia.com that there is always pressure during World Cups and big competitions.
“There is always a lot of pressure surrounding World Cups and major tournaments. That is a component of it. It makes no difference whether you’ve won it all in the prior four years. It’s all about how you rise to the occasion. We’re just making sure we’re ready, checking all the boxes, and delivering under those conditions. Everyone is having a big year” Joe Root said.
“We probably have more experience now than we did four years ago. There are still a number of guys who have played in Indian circumstances. It’s wonderful to have had that experience. Guys who have played a lot of cricket in those conditions (in India) would be crucial” Joe Root said in an interview with TimesofIndia.com
“England does not want to complicate matters too much. All we’re doing is trusting ourselves, increasing in confidence, and making sure we’re as prepared as we can be to peak at the right time and at the appropriate moments” Joe Root Added.
England is the current T20 World Cup champion, having defeated Pakistan in the final in 2022 to claim their second title.
