South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma has hit back at the viral photos suggesting that he was sleeping during the World Cup Captains Day event on Wednesday (October 4).

The captains of the ten participating teams gathered in Ahmedabad on Wednesday for a special event. And Temba Bavuma grabbed the limelight for reasons he would not have liked. A viral photo showing the Proteas star sleeping went viral on social media and he became the subject of all jokes among the fans.

Temba Bavuma was sitting on a chair alongside the other captains on the stage. Soon after the event began, the photo went viral as almost everyone believed that the player had fallen asleep. However, Temba Bavuma has cleared the air and has denied falling asleep on the stage. He gave the clarification on X (formerly Twitter) while replying to a post from England’s Barmy Army.

“I blame the camera angle, I wasn’t sleeping,” replied Temba Bavuma on the post.

Temba Bavuma eyes history:

Temba Bavuma will have a chance to create history in the ODI World Cup this year. He could become the first-ever South African captain to win the coveted title if he manages to lead the Proteas to glory in the competition. The tournament is already a historic one for him as he will be the first black player to lead South Africa in the ODI World Cup.

The right-handed batsman will be looking to make it even more special by leading his team to a historic title. Unlike the previous few editions, South Africa is not the favorite for this edition. However, they do have the required firepower to win the competition. The likes of Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, and Kagiso Rabada are some of the best players in the world at present and can take their team to the title.

South Africa will play their World Cup opening match against Sri Lanka at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 7.
