SA20 2024: Tom Abell Makes An Insane Effort To Stop A Six In The SA20 League
The SA20 league is up and running with a lot of impressive cricketing action. One of the league’s highlights was seen during the match between Durban Super Giants and Sunrisers Eastern Cape when Tom Abell from Sunrisers Eastern Cape made an insane effort while fielding at the deep-square leg trying to stop a six. The effort made by Tom Abell however resulted in a six but still, the effort he made was one of the most insane fielding efforts seen in the T20 league.
During the 18th over of the Durban Super Giants’ innings, JJ Smuts was already batting on 69 when a full-length pace-off delivery from Daniel Worrall was bowled on his pads. JJ Smuts waited and flicked it over the deep-square leg for what seemed one of the flattest six. However, Tom Abell who was fielding there, took a huge leap to collect the ball with his left hand and released it with the back of his hand as he was falling beyond the ropes.
However, the replay showed that Tom Abell stepped on the boundary cushion before jumping to stop the six and as a result, the umpire gave it a six. JJ Smuts was out on the very next ball as Marco Jansen took an easy catch at the long-on. JJ Smuts played a terrific knock scoring 75 off just 38 balls hitting four boundaries and seven maximums.
The SA20 League’s official handle on ‘X’ released a video of the effort made by Tom Abell on the boundary line to prevent a ball from going to six. It was a sensational effort from Tom Abell and surely he would be livid after finding out that his effort went in vain as he touched the boundary line.

The Durban Super Giants posted a huge total of 225/3 with JJ Smuts and Nicholas Pooran playing some impressive cricket to reach their half-centuries. JJ Smuts scored 75 off 38 while Pooran smashed 60 off 31 to help Super Giants post a massive total of 225. In return, Sunrisers Eastern Cape could only manage 190 in their given 20 overs at the loss of nine wickets.
Tristan Stubbs and Tom Abell from Sunrisers Eastern Cape played commendable innings scoring 55 off 26 and 65 off 36 respectively. However, the rest of the batting order could not contribute and as a result, Durban Super Giants won the match by 35 runs. Currently, the Durban Super Giants are at the top of the table with two huge wins against MI Cape Town and Sunrisres Eastern Cape.
The SA20 league is having a great second season as of now with teams engaging in fierce competition. The last season was also a success where Sunrisers Eastern Cape emerged as the inaugural champions under the leadership of South African T20I skipper Aiden Markram. However, this season, the Eastern Cape has not opened their account with their first match washed out and the second they lost to Durban Super Giants.
