The SA20 2027 auction completed the squad-building process for the fifth season of the league, with 19 players finding new homes. Joburg Super Kings, MI Cape Town, Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape were the four teams involved in the auction, while Durban's Super Giants and Paarl Royals had already completed their squads.
The auction was held in Johannesburg on Wednesday, October 7, with 156 shortlisted players competing for 19 available slots. The four participating teams had a combined maximum purse of R35.025 million, while the salary cap for the season was increased to R42 million.
4 teams battled hard at SA20 2027 auction
The SA20 Season 5 auction followed the retention and pre-signing window, with every squad required to have 19 players. Durban's Super Giants and Paarl Royals had already filled their squads and therefore did not participate in the auction.
Joburg Super Kings entered with six vacancies and the biggest remaining purse of R20.6 million. MI Cape Town also had six slots, with R9.35 million available, while Pretoria Capitals had five slots and R1.475 million. Sunrisers Eastern Cape had two vacancies and R3.6 million remaining.
Kieron Pollard headlines SA20 auction historic switch to Super Kings
Kieron Pollard joined Joburg Super Kings for R1.5 million, while Jason Rowles became the most expensive player of the auction at R2.9 million. JSK also bought Faf du Plessis (R2.7m), Dayyaan Galiem (R375,000), Blessing Muzarabani (R500,000) and Andries Gous (R1m).
MI Cape Town signed Shimron Hetmyer (R1.5m), Wiaan Mulder (R2.6m), Trent Boult (R1.5m), Daniel Smith (R200,000), Lehan Botha (R200,000) and Oliver Whitehead (R200,000).
Pretoria Capitals added Rassie van der Dussen (R500,000), Keemo Paul (R200,000), Ackeem Auguste (R200,000), Josh Breed (R200,000) and Temba Bavuma (R200,000). Sunrisers Eastern Cape bought Nandre Burger (R500,000) and Craig Overton (R1.5m).
